I think it’s obvious by my website you’re not going to find me doing cutesy photos, so it maybe a surprise that I’m posting up some maternity photos. However, these are preggers photos with a difference!
Say hello to one of best friends, Penny. Penny has always had a bit of a penchant for dressing up and being a bit nuts. Its everything I love her for.
Naturally, when she fell pregnant, we started talking about doing a pregnancy shoot for her. Penny is not a heart symbol over belly button kinda gal, oh no. So despite her swollen feet and big bump she got in a pair of heels and punked it up for me! Needless to say she was pretty cream crackered afterwards.
I have an area in Brighton where I love to shoot – it’s a haven of graffiti walls, decrepit old buildings and industrial car parks. It provided the perfect backdrop for our shoot.
Researching for a bit of inspiration was surprising to say the least – no-one has done a rock’n'roll maternity shoot? Really? Well, here’s to my wonderful friend for wanting to show a bit of personality and have some fun.
Penny took inspiration from a Joan Jett image (shot by Steve Emberton) for what she wanted out of the shoot. She requested them all to be black and white but I’ve sneaked a few colour in as I love them so much.
I hope you like our alternative maternity shoot and do please leave Penny some love in the comment box, I know she’ll really appreciate it!
Having enjoyed this shoot so much, I’m now offering them as part of my services. Let’s revolutionise maternity photography, baby! Get in touch if you’d like to talk to me about doing one. Penny is a single mum but I’m very up for doing mum and dad shoots too, as long as you’re looking for an edge.
