I’ve done a few events for Forward now and every time I attend one I’m as every bit struck by what they’re achieving and what they’re working to do.
If you don’t know Forward, they’re an African Diaspora women led UK-registered campaign and support charity dedicated to advancing and safeguarding the sexual and reproductive health and rights of African girls and women. Their main focus is Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child marriage and related rights of girls and young women. Please do go and have a look on their website – it’s so easy to just think ‘this happens somewhere else’ but it is actually happening among local communities and increased awareness is so important.
Please have a look at this video and also have a look at the photos I took at their recent event. If you’d like to help out, contribute or donate you can do it through their website.
The following photos were taken at their International Women’s Day event at The African Centre in Covent Garden. A series of documentaries played, people were interviewed for the cause, people had stalls to raise money for the charity and there were music, dance and spoken work performances. Hopefully these images demonstrate what an amazing team they are.
