I’ve been wanting to do a fashion photography workshop for a while, not because it’s an area I’m looking to get into but because I enjoy shooting people and I wanted to take elements on the style of fashion to that.
Paul White is an established photographer who has worked with many celebs and with some very big name brands. He is now running workshops in Hertfordshire and I was intrigued when I got an email from them about the one day fashion workshop. Despite being in the middle of moving house I booked and am so glad I did!
We worked through some basic lighting skills in a studio and then in the afternoon tried some more lighting techniques, indoors and outdoors. I think the main thing for me is I felt like a bit of fraud using lighting sometimes and couldn’t quite shake the feeling I was just ‘winging it’ despite always getting good results. But I think just watching another photographer work showed me that really there isn’t any right or wrong way, it’s just what works at the time. Of course some technical understanding is also a great way to build a basis for practice.
I wholeheartedly recommend the Shoot Fashion workshop – have a look at some of these pics I took over the course of the day. Very pleased with them! I think for me, it’s given me a whole heap of confidence to experiment a bit more and to have faith in myself I can get results.

Paul White - Fantastic work Emma! Really happy that the day gave you confidence in your abilites and taught you some new skills. Love the pictures and I’m excited to see your future work as well.
Keep an eye out for the new Editorial Wedding Workshop in June too!
